  • So, I Started Writing Things Down.

There are people who have their lives figured out.

They wake up early. They drink water. They exercise. They have matching bedsheets. They probably know where their important documents are.

I am not one of those people.

I am, however, someone who has a lot of thoughts.

    Some of them are profound.

Some of them are completely unnecessary.

And some begin with, “Okay, but why do men…?”

So I decided to put them somewhere.

Welcome to A Life in Footnotes.

I suppose the name came from the feeling that most of life happens in the little details we don’t consider important enough to put in the main story.

The conversations we keep replaying in our heads.

The book that changed our perspective for no apparent reason.

The movie we’ve watched twenty-seven times and still know every dialogue from.

The ridiculous argument with our spouse/partner that started because somebody washed the utensils incorrectly.

The random thought that arrives at 2 a.m. and suddenly feels like the most important philosophical question in human history.

The things we learn about ourselves only after we’re well into adulthood.

The things we wish someone had told us earlier.

And the things that are simply too funny not to share.

    That’s where the footnotes live.

    What will you find here?

    Honestly?

    I don’t completely know yet.

And I think that’s the fun part.

There will probably be books. A lot of books.

There will be thoughts about relationships, marriage, feminism, being a woman, growing older, navigating work, and trying to remain a reasonably functional adult while life keeps throwing surprise chapters at you.

    There will be pop culture.

    There will be movies.

There will probably be an unreasonable amount of Harry Potter.

There may be occasional existential crises.

    There will definitely be dogs.

And somewhere along the way, there might be a Batman reference that makes absolutely no sense until you’ve read the post properly.

I’ve never really believed that people fit neatly into one category.

You can be ambitious and exhausted.

    Independent and sentimental.

    Sarcastic and ridiculously emotional.

A feminist who loves romantic comedies.

A grown woman who still gets excited about fictional characters.

Someone who can discuss software testing at work and then spend twenty minutes explaining why a fictional wizard’s character arc is underrated.

Human beings are messy like that.

And that’s probably what I want this website to be too.

    Not polished into oblivion.

Not pretending to have all the answers.

    Just honest.

    A few things about me

You can read the official version on my About Me page.

    But here’s the unofficial version:

    I overthink.

    I read.

I watch far too many movies.

I have opinions about books that I will defend with an enthusiasm that probably isn’t proportionate to the situation.

    I love stories.

    I love people.

    I love dogs.

I sometimes have deep philosophical thoughts.

I sometimes have thoughts that are essentially:

“Why is this song stuck in my head?”

Both are equally likely to end up here.

And yes, there is already a Batman page on this website.

    That probably tells you enough.

Why write a blog in 2026?

Because apparently I enjoy making things difficult.

We live in a world where everything is getting shorter.

    Short videos.

    Short captions.

    Short attention spans.

    Three-second hooks.

“Tell me the answer in one sentence.”

And yet some thoughts don’t fit into a reel.

    Some stories need space.

Some conversations deserve more than a comment section.

And sometimes you don’t want to consume something in fifteen seconds.

Sometimes you want to sit with an idea.

    Think about it.

    Argue with it.

    Agree with it.

    Or completely disagree with it.

That’s what I want to do here.

Write things that make you pause for a moment.

    Maybe laugh.

    Maybe roll your eyes.

Maybe send the link to your husband with the message:

    “READ THIS.”

No promises that the arguments will always be sensible.

But I promise they will be mine.

    The footnotes

Life is rarely as straightforward as the main story makes it look.

We remember the big events — the jobs, the weddings, the heartbreaks, the achievements, the failures.

But sometimes it’s the tiny things that stay with us.

    A conversation.

    A smell.

    A song.

    A book.

    A Sunday afternoon.

    A ridiculous inside joke.

    A dog sleeping beside you.

A sentence someone said years ago that you didn’t understand at the time.

    Those are the footnotes.

They don’t always change the plot.

But they change the way we read it.

So this website is my collection of them.

    Some will be thoughtful.

    Some will be ridiculous.

Some will probably make me cringe when I read them six months later.

    That’s okay.

    I’ll leave them here anyway.

Because maybe somewhere along the way, one of my footnotes will remind you of something from your own life.

And if it does, then perhaps this wasn’t just me writing things down after all.

Maybe we were all reading the same footnote.

    Just in different lives.

Welcome to A Life in Footnotes.

    Stay a while.

    I’ve got stories to tell.
